Coming Up:

On Wednesday, October 30, Young Women’s Freedom Center and the California Coalition for Women Prisoners will host a rally to raise awareness for the #MeTooBehindBars campaign on the steps of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation in Sacramento. The campaign was launched in response to two assaults where correctional officers used physical force, sexual harassment and homophobic and transphobic insults against transgender, gender nonconforming and queer people at women’s prisons in California. For more information on this important campaign and the rally, visit the event page on Facebook.

On November 6, the Young Women’s Freedom Center (YWFC) is partnering with the Vera Institute of Justice and the County of Santa Clara Office of Women’s Policy to celebrate the opening of YWFC’s newest site in Santa Clara County. Featuring performances from YWFC members and remarks from local and statewide advocates and policymakers, the event will celebrate the movement to decriminalize women, girls, transgender and gender-nonconforming people in the South Bay.
