This week, California state legislators announced an early agreement on the state budget package which included the Food4All eligibility expansion. The expansion will bring equity to California’s nutrition safety net by ending the immigrant exclusion in the CalFresh program. Now, the budget will go to Governor Newsom. Solidaire Network announced their first round of grantmaking from the Black Liberation Pooled Fund, awarding $14 million to 102 organizations in the movement for Black freedom. Launched in 2020, the Fund aims to support grassroots organizers in Black communities by mobilizing and coordinating the allocation of resources and strengthening the ecosystem of Black-led social change organizations.
“This cohort of grantees are youth and elders. They are Queer. They are in large and small cities and rural places. They are immigrants, land stewards, artists, and healers. They are fighting to protect the vote and to defund jails and prisons. They are working to mitigate the climate crisis and build grassroots power.
